	THE PHDINIT PROGRAM

Purpose:
	Prepare a new PHD for use with MS-DOS and/or other systems.
	When you add a new PHD to your system, you must use PHDINIT to
	prepare an area of that PHD (a 'partition') to hold DOS files. If you
	want your PHD to contain more partitions, you will need to use
	PHDINIT to divide the available disk space among that partitions.
	You can use PHDINIT to test whether your PHD is working and to
	display the size of each partition that exists on the PHD. Also use
	PHDINIT to set or remove a password upon the PHD to prevent the
	access of unqualified people to data stored on it.

WARNING! Use this program with care. The "delete" and "delete all"
	 options will effectively destroy all data on your PHD.

Remarks: PHDINIT has an interactive user-friendly look, similar to the
	well-known Borland products.
	It displays a series of windows and menus to help
	you setup the PHD. Navigation through them can be made using the
	mouse, if one is available or using the keyboard (ALT, CTRL, TAB,
	SPACE, Enter and function keys.). Inside a listbox you can scroll and
	then pick up an item using the OK button. You can close a dialog
	window using ESC key or Cancel button. Closing a dialog window will
	result in discarding any data you set in that window.

	Before you start working with the program, let us make clear a few
	terms. PHD can be connected to any parallel port that exists on that
	system. Since there can be more than one LPT port (LPT port and
	parallel port are the same thing), you can have more than one PHD
	installed (in fact, the PHD has a smart feature allowing two
	physical drives be connected on the same LPT port in a sort of a
	chain).
	As we've said before, you create on each physical drive stand-alone
	different areas (the partitions) that are set aside and prepared to
	receive data. At the boot time, when a specific driver is loaded by
	the operation system from the config.sys file, an existing partition
	will be associated with a drive letter and a LOGICAL drive will be
	created. Therefore, on a physical drive you may have more logical
	drives; we called them so because they are accessible through the
	device driver. The main goal of the PHDINIT is the administration of
	the partitions on a PHD.

Features:
	Using PHDINIT you can deal with up to four different PHD drives and
	you can perform the following tasks on the selected drives:
		- display partitions;
		- add a partition;
		- delete a partition;
		- delete all partitions;
		- set a password;
		- remove password;

CAUTION! Don't experiment with PHDINIT. If you accidentally delete or format a
	 partition you will lose data from PHD.

Menu options:

	PARTITION

	- "Display" option displays an overview of the partitions belonging
	to the selected drive.

	- "Add" option makes a new partition on the working PHD. You may
	have up to 16 different partitions on a PHD. If you plan to use the
	PHD under MS-DOS version 3.3 choose this option in
	"Advanced"/"Target Dos" menu;
	thus the partition you create will be consistent with DOS 3.3.

	Remark:	to change the size of a partition you must actually delete
	the partition and create one with a different size.

	- "Delete" option deletes one or more partitions on the working PHD
	as it follows. If you wish to have last partition on PHD deleted then
	only that partition will be deleted; the others will remain untouched.
	But if you wish to delete other partition excepting the last one, at
	least two partitions will be deleted, that is ALL PARTITIONS that
	follow the chosen one. The partitions that are to be deleted will
	appear highlighted inside the listbox.

		WARNING! Deleting a partition deletes all data stored on
		that partition.

	- "Delete all" option deletes all partitions on the working drive.
	You will lose all your data on the PHD. Notice that it is not the
	same thing as deleting all partitions one at a time using the
	"delete" option.

	PASSWORD

	You have the possibility to set a password on the PHD to protect your
	data from indiscreet or unauthorized accesses. Passwords may be up to
	eight case-sensitive ASCII characters.

	- "set" option simply asks you for a password, then asks you to
	confirm that password. If a password is already set then you have to
	enter the old password in order to install a new one .

	-"remove" option cleans the installed password.

	CAUTION! Use carefully this feature. Write down somewhere the
	password you just set since if you forget the password, you'll not be
	able to access your data.
